Cipla reported a significant decline in its consolidated net profit for the second quarter of FY27. The company's North American revenue fell by 19% due to increased competition impacting sales of generic Revlimid. However, Cipla anticipates that its upcoming product pipeline will support performance in North America. In India, domestic revenue rose, providing some resilience amidst challenges in the US market.
Cipla expects its North American business to remain supported by its upcoming product pipeline, the drugmaker said on Tuesday, even as intensifying competition and tapering sales of generic Revlimid weighed on its US performance in the September quarter.India’s third-largest drugmaker by revenue reported a 35% year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 878 crore for the second quarter of FY27, missing analysts’ estimates of Rs 942 crore, according to data compiled by LSEG. Net profit stood at Rs 1,351 crore in the year-ago quarter.

Cipla’s North America revenue fell 19% during the quarter, reflecting continued pressure on sales of generic Revlimid, Bristol Myers Squibb’s blood cancer drug, as competition increased. The company, however, said its US business posted revenue of $172 million during the quarter, continuing its sequential growth trajectory.
“We expect North America performance to remain supported by our upcoming product pipeline,” the company said.

The US business remains a key pressure point for Cipla as generic Revlimid sales taper, increasing the importance of its product pipeline and growth in other markets. India, which accounts for a significant share of the company’s revenue alongside North America, continued to provide support, with domestic revenue rising 12% year on year.
Cipla is also looking to newer launches to strengthen growth in India, including Yurpeak, its brand of Eli Lilly’s tirzepatide, which it markets under a partnership with the US drugmaker. The obesity drug is expected to add to the company’s growth opportunities as its US business navigates competitive pressures.
Revenue from operations declined 2.4% year on year to Rs 7,404 crore during the quarter. The company said the reported revenue was affected in part by a reclassification effective April 1, 2026, under which certain marketing and promotional expenses are presented as a reduction from revenue instead of under other expenses. The change had no impact on profit or cash flows.

India and North America together contribute about two-thirds of Cipla’s revenue, making performance in the two markets central to its overall growth trajectory.
Outside the US, Cipla said its South Africa private-market business continued to outperform the market, growing approximately 1.3 times faster than the market.
“We continue to focus on sustained growth in our core businesses, improving productivity, strengthening our pipeline in order to serve patients with trusted, high-quality medicines,” the company said.
